EU Protected Food Names

Sources and method

Registration facts come from the official eAmbrosia API. Wikimedia data is used only to rank names for this limited selection.

Independent information site: we are not the authority and not the source of the data.

Official registration facts

Registration facts come only from official European Commission eAmbrosia APIs. The main API covers geographical indications (GI); TSG entries come from a separate official feed. Each page shows its official identifier, source links and retrieval date. TSG links lead to the feed and register list because no individual detail route is available.

GI pages label the source classification as CN category; TSG pages use Product category. These are the categories returned by the respective sources.

Only entries with registered status are included. Applications and other statuses are excluded. The five browsing groups are food, wine, spirits, aromatised wine and TSG. TSG is a separate browsing group, not an additional product sector.

Legacy aromatised-wine records have source product type Food but a legal instrument referencing Regulation (EU) No 251/2014. Only their browsing group is inferred as aromatised wine from that explicit legal-instrument URL. Their source product type remains Food in the facts.

A missing value is shown as not provided in the source. We do not infer a registration date, country or category from the name or from Wikipedia.

Selection and Wikipedia ranking

The total limit is 3000 pages, including name pages, five group indexes, the home page, sources, about and error pages. Each name in a GI record's protectedNames array gets a separate page. TSG names separated by " / " likewise get separate pages.

Eligible names are ranked by English Wikipedia pageviews over 30 days. Each name page states the exact start and end dates. The highest-ranked name in each group is reserved first; remaining places are filled from the overall ranking.

An exact-name English Wikipedia article match is used, with redirects resolved. Missing articles and unavailable daily values receive zero for ranking. Ties are resolved by the official identifier, then the name, so selection is repeatable.

Pageviews measure attention to an article. They are not search query counts, and an exact title match does not prove the article concerns the registered product. Wikimedia supplies no registration facts on this site.

What the answer means

An affirmative answer means that the named entry had registered status in the official API when retrieved. It does not assess a label, recipe, producer, trademark or proposed use of the name. The scheme and official record matter; inclusion here does not establish a right to use the name.

The register can change after retrieval. Use the official record to check the current details. Absence from this selection is not a negative registration result.

A factual register snapshot, not legal advice; check the current official record before relying on it.
